A new survey by the Discovery Institute gives me hope. Ten years ago, in 2016, they asked whether the findings of science make the existence of God “more probable” or “less probable.” Ten years ago, 34% of adults answered “more probable.” This year, the number of Americans who said science makes God “more probable” jumped 11 points to 45%!
Perhaps related, polls in England show a rise in belief among young men. Belief in among 18–24-year-olds rose sharply — from about 16% in August 2021 to around 37% by 2025 (with one reading as high as ~45% in early 2025). Atheism in the same group fell from roughly 49% to 32%.
Science has found astonishingly complex systems in nature. I like to think that the absurdity of ascribing complex systems to chance is becoming obvious to all but the most hard-core atheists.
One of my favorite areas is DNA – the code God put inside all life. Did you know some sequences of DNA give the instructions for building one protein when you read the code in one direction, and the instructions for building a difference protein when you read the code in the other direction? Atheists/evolutionists used to tell us DNA is mostly “junk.” Then, in 2011, the ENCODE Project – over 400 top scientists worldwide – found that all or almost all of our DNA serves a purpose. A year later, they announced that DNA has at least two layers of information. I like this article on the complexity of DNA.
DNA was the first biological code to be discovered. There are others. In 2010 it was discovered that there are chemical “tails” on histones that create a language to determine whether certain genes should be turned on or off. Histones are like spools; our DNA is wound around them. These codes outside of our DNA help to operate our bodies.
Scientists are finding more biologic codes, information contained in various forms within life. To quote a 2023 article, “there are hundreds to thousands of biological codes, but only a fraction—although still a substantial number—have been explicitly described as such.”
